Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly rated and extremely functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop is a well-built machine. The $1,400 list price is a bit steep, but you can find it for sale frequently enough to make the purchase more palatable. The unit looks fantastic and the base takes up little room in the corner of your home.
The design of this machine addresses the issues we've faced with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as brushes that get caught in hair, and the vacuum brush not being able to reach the bare flooring beneath furniture. The ability to sweep carpets and floors that are not covered is also impressive. The vacuum and mop have an excellent level of debris collection and the mop will quickly soak up bare floors.
The mops also have an intelligent system to clean around the edges of furniture and walls. The robot can easily avoid obstacles like food bowls, toys and backpacks. But it can become stuck or entangled with smaller and more compact objects like shoelaces, USB cables and pen.
This robot was used to mop and vacuum hardwood floors FLOR carpet tiles, as well as pile rugs in a large open-plan home. It cleaned and mopped the 90 square meters in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than average for Gen 4 robots.

Several features distinguish this robot from other models in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with a number of improvements in sensors, software and hardware to keep it ahead of its class. It has been declared to have an autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260 square meters.
You can customize multiple functions from the Freo app, such as how often the robot returns to the base station as well as its mopping frequency and power (silent or smart), and its mopping humidity. The app can also detect areas that are heavily soiled and devise a streamlined cleaning route, as well as dispensing detergent or raising the pads on carpet.
Other impressive features include a quick charging battery, a clear display on the robot's underside, and a convenient dock door that can be opened easily. The Freo X Ultra is the best vacuum and mop for home and apartment owners who are looking to reduce their chores while keeping their home clean and tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele isn't a joke in the world of robot vacuums and has a reputation for quality and technological innovation. This new model aims to take that to the next level with innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 features a dual-suction system and intelligent mapping that incorporates 3D mapping as well as cameras that send an image in real-time to your smartphone. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system offers excellent dust pickup on carpet and hard floors, while its easy-to-use swing-out side brushes and dual suction channels keep corners clean. The 8.5 cm height allows it to fit under furniture that is low, and front cameras and infrared sensors aid it navigate obstacles and thresholds easily.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it was able to clean baking powder near corners and baseboards. Its suction of 2,500 Pa was less powerful than other robots but it was able to move quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop, however and its cleaning pads were a bit difficult to attach and didn't deal with dirt that had dried on.
The app is on the basic side and lacks features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It supports Alexa but its voice controls aren't intuitive or responsive. It's also difficult when it comes to returning to the charging station following an outing -- other robots can follow a previous route or follow a wall around until they get to their destination, but the RX3 simply bumbles around until it finally gives up and sends a message of failure to your phone.
Another issue we had was with its smart features, particularly the mapping function and digital keep-out zones. It was effective in keeping our shoes and furniture legs away, but it was easily hanging up on cables, socks and carpets. That's why we chose not to include it on our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and impressive performance. It's worth a look as an alternative to traditional uprights.
